On March 21, 2008, Governor Christine Gregoire signed into law ESSB 6606, requiring the licensing of home inspectors in Washington State. For many of us, this was the culmination of years of working towards a law that was beneficial to the public, and fair to the 1,000 or so Inspectors in the state of Washington. In September of 2009, home inspectors in Washington State became required to obtain a professional license through the Department of Licensing. Licensing requirements include specific classroom and field training, as well as testing. Additionally, home inspectors are to follow the ethics and standards compiled by the Home Inspectors Advisory Board and the Department of Licensing. These ethics and standards are outlined in our Standards of Practice (SOP).
